Louise Gibbs is a singer, jazz improviser and composer. It has been said of her bebop-inspired style: "She can turn a hackneyed jazz standard into a newly-imagined composition...and takes musical risks...as expressive as any horn player whether the tune's by Kenny Wheeler or Rodgers & Hart". With horn player Mark Chandler Louise pays homage to the Bossa nova, a style of Brazilian music popularized by Antônio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes and João Gilberto. Bossa nova has acquired a large following, initially by young musicians and college students but now to most mainstream jazz audiences. The music has contributed a large number of songs to the standard jazz repertoire
