"Can't wait to see this band live.... they are the force needed at this time in the history of Jazz. They are vibrant, driven and talented. We need new blood of this kind in the UK and world jazz scene to ensure jazz lives on" - UK Jazz Now
The Phil Meadows Quartet set out to become part of the cutting edge contemporary jazz scene in September 2008. Their original music combines influences from the great John Coltrane, Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner and Ornette Coleman through to the Post-Punk jazz movement scene which features the likes of Polar Bear and Acoustic Ladyland. The original compositions combine a mixture of intense grooves and melodic counterpoint with minimalist influences which are the bedrock for improvisational interplay between the band. So far it has taken them all over the country at venues such as the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester Jazz Festival, The Yardbird Club, Zefirelli's and Matt and Phred's Jazz Club
Phil Meadows is a fast emerging young Saxophonist, composer and arranger. Phil is an exceptional Improviser, playing across the full spectrum of the Jazz genre. This exciting horn player is a graduate of Chethams School of Music where he played both lead alto and tenor in their BBC award winning big band. Phil has worked alongside some of this countries finest Jazz Musicians including Iain Dixon, Steve Berry and Les Chisnall. He has also played with American Saxophonist George Shelby.
Frontman with his own quartet, Phil brings his extraordinary talent to his own contemporary compositions, and the established jazz repertoire, but with an added edge. His compositions combine a mixture of intense grooves, with minimalist influences in a jazz setting. Phil recentley showcased his three movement suite for jazz quartet and string orchestra, a piece that takes his writing and arranging in a new and exciting direction. Phil's love of jazz is evident throughout his work and this in demand player is quickly establishing himself on the Northern Jazz scene.
