The LYJRO Big Band is one Seven Jazz's favourite bands. Their spectrum of jazz related styles ranging from swing to 'hip hop' and funk. Under the guidance of charismatic director Brendan Duffy LYJRO has organised workshops featuring eminent jazz musicians including Scott Stroman and Dave O'Higgins and projects involving several ensembles - such as their 'Global Warning' project in 2005.
LYJRO have strong links to Durban, Leeds' twin town in South Africa. They will be returning to South Africa in September 2010 to perform in the Durban Festival and ndertake teaching workshops in the Ekaya Arts Centre and local schools. To make this possible, LYJRO are involved in a programme of extensive fundraising. The Seven gig is part of that fundraising - so come and enjoy a great gig and give them a big enthusiastic send off.
