Anita Wardell Quartet
Anita Wardell with Robin Aspland piano, Zoltan Dekany bass and Steve Brown drums
Seven Arts, Thursday 25th March 8pm
If you like real swinging improvising jazz singers then Aninta Wardell is your woman. Steeped in the bebop tradition she scats just like a horn player, with great lines, a great feel and interacts with her band. You won't have heard jazz vocals as exciting as this in a long time. Not only can she improvise like a demon, she can sing a ballad with such tenderness and honesty and you know you are right there with her.
One of the UK’s most creative and best loved vocalists, her recent album "Kinda Blue" has had rave reviews : "...the singer's mercurial musicality and acute sense of improvisation freedom can at times take the breath away." Jazzwise
The band is swinging too - watch out for Robin Aspland on piano, and the fine duo of Zoltan Dekany on bass and Steve Brown drums.
