The Dales Jam: West Riding silent shorts@Seven Arts

Led by saxman Richard Ormrod, Dales Jam is a group of over 30 musicians based in Skipton, North Yorkshire that sample world rhythms with jazz vocabulary, improvisation and celebration. Now Dales Jam brings "West Riding Silent Shorts" to Leeds: an afternoon of Yorkshire archive film shorts with live original scores.

In 2013, the BBC commissioned the Dales Jam to support three North Yorkshire community youth ensembles in composing original music for vintage regional shorts from the Yorkshire Film Archive. The resulting scores were performed live alongside the original films during the Richmond Jazz and Grassington Festivals. The gig at Seven Arts will be an hour of archive shorts with live original scores, supported by a set of soundtrack music to films by Fellini, Kurosawa, Kusturica, Coppola and more, all in new arrangements by Richard Ormrod, Yorkshire Jazz Musician of the Year 2012.
